Handmade Kurdish Faranji

The Faranji (فەرەنجی) is one of the most beautiful and authentic traditional garments in Kurdish culture, particularly in the Hawraman region.

1. Material & Composition

• Natural and Organic: Ferandji is made entirely from natural sheep's wool.
• Production Method: The wool is washed, prepared as raw wool, and then shaped using traditional felting and handcrafted methods (without modern machinery).
• Properties: Thanks to the wool, the Ferandji keeps a person warm in the winter and cool in the summer. It is also resistant to moisture and rain.

2. Washing & Cleaning

• Best Not to Wash: Because it is made of compressed felted wool, washing it will distort its shape and loosen the fibers.
• Spot Cleaning: If it has a small stain, it is best to gently clean it with a damp cloth and a little mild soap.
• Drying: If it gets wet, it must not be exposed to direct sunlight or put in a dryer. It should be laid flat in a shaded area until it dries naturally (hanging it while wet will ruin its shape).

3. The Natural Odor

• Natural Smell: A new Ferandji always has a slight scent of natural wool or sheep, which is a sign of the product's authenticity rather than a defect.
• How to Reduce the Smell: Airing it out in an open space will gradually reduce the odor. Users can also store natural aromatics (such as lavender flowers or cloves) nearby.

4. Storage & Preservation

• Protection from Moths: The greatest enemy of the Ferandji is the clothes moth, as it eats the wool. Mothballs (naphthalene) should be placed in the storage area.
• Ventilation: It should not be kept in a sealed plastic bag for too long, as this traps moisture. It is best stored in a cloth bag in a dry, cool place.

١. ماتریال و پێکهاتە

• خۆرسک و سروشتی: فەرەنجی بە تەواوی لە خوری سروشتی مەڕ دروست دەکرێت.
• شێوازی بەرهەمهێنان: خورییەکە دەشۆردرێتەوە، دەکرێت بە خوری خاو، و دواتر بە شێوازی شێلان و دەستکرد (بێ بەکارهێنانی دەزگای مۆدێرن) شێوەی پێ دەدرێت.
• تایبەتمەندی: بەهۆی خورییەکەوە، فەرەنجی لە زستاندا مرۆڤ گەرم دەکاتەوە و لە هاویندا فێنکە، هەروەها دژە شێ و بارانە.

٢. شۆردن و پاککردنەوە

• باشترە نەشۆردرێت: بەهۆی ئەوەی لە خوری پەستێنراو دروستکراوە، شۆردنی شێوەکەی تێکدەدات و خورییەکە خاو دەبێتەوە.
• پاککردنەوەی ناوخۆیی (پەڵە): ئەگەر پەڵەیەکی بچووکی پێوەبوو، باشترە بە پەڕۆیەکی شێدار و کەمێک سابونی ڕوون بە هێواشی پاک بکرێتەوە.
• وشککردنەوە: ئەگەر تەڕ بوو، نابێت بدرێت لەبەر تیشکی ڕاستەوخۆی خۆر یان بخرێتە ناو ئامێری وشککەرەوە. دەبێت لە شوێنێکی سێبەر و بە شێوەیەکی تەخت (ڕاکشاو) دابنرێت تا خۆی وشک دەبێتەوە (هەڵواسینی بە تەڕی شێوەکەی تێکدەدات).

٣. بۆنە سروشتییەکەی

• بۆنی سروشتی: فەرەنجی نوێ هەمیشە کەمێک بۆنی خوری سروشتی یان مەڕی لێدێت، ئەمەش نیشانەی ڕەسەنایەتی بەرهەمەکەیە نەک کەموکوڕی.
• چۆن بۆنەکەی کەم بکرێتەوە؟ بەهۆی هەوا لێدان لە شوێنی کراوەدا بۆنەکەی بەرەو کەمبوونەوە دەچێت. دەکرێت بەکارهێنەر بۆنداری سروشتی (وەک گوڵی لاڤێندەر یان مێخەک) لەگەڵ هەڵبگرێت.

٤. هەڵگرتن و پاراستن

• دوورخستنەوە لە مۆرانە: گەورەترین دوژمنی فەرەنجی مۆرانەیە، چونکە خوری دەخوات. پێویستە نەفتالین لەناو ئەو شوێنەدا دابنرێت کە فەرەنجییەکەی تێدا هەڵدەگیرێت.
• هەواگۆڕکێ: نابێت بۆ ماوەیەکی زۆر لەناو زەرفی نایلۆنی داخراودا بمێنێتەوە چونکە شێ لێدەدات. باشترە لەناو کیسەی قوماشی یان لە شوێنێکی وشک و فێنکدا هەڵبگیرێت.
